To a senior living alone, a daily phone call can mean the difference between quickly getting help in the event of a bad fall, or lying helpless on the floor for days. Sheltering Arms Senior Services' Telephone Reassurance Program gives seniors peace of mind knowing that if they have an accident or an emergency and are unable to answer the safety phone call, help will be sent.
The program, established in 1973, utilizes trained community and corporate volunteers to make a daily telephone call, at a designated time, to check on the well-being and safety of an elder. If the call remains unanswered, Sheltering Arms activates an emergency procedure to ensure the senior's safety.
An influx of new volunteers from KBR, the Junior League, Heritage Health and other corporations have increased Sheltering Arms Senior Services' ability to serve more clients.
Seniors who are 60 and older may register for the free Telephone Reassurance program by calling 713-685-6577.
