Brown Foundation Awards Care for Elders $150,000
Care for Elders has received a grant from The Brown Foundation for $150,000 over the next two years. Thank you, Brown Foundation, for your continued support and commitment to improving the lives of older adults in Harris County.

 

 

Healthy IDEAS is expanding into the state of Florida "Texas style"

Healthy IDEAS is being replicated in three separate areas in Florida --Orlando (central Fl.), Punta Gorda (east coast) and Miami (south west coast). The program implementation work has begun with three agencies in the Miami, Dade and Broward County areas, and with the lead agency in Charlotte County in south west and the Area Agency on Aging lead agency in Orlando. Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC)

The CAC will be meeting Wednesday, November 12th, 11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. This meeting will be held in the Education Center at Sheltering Arms Senior Services. METRO will provide transportation information and respond to questions about METRO services.  If you are interested in attending this meeting, please contact Jeanette Lazarofsky at 713.685.6558.

 

 

Care for Elders Full Partnership Meeting

Hurricane Ike: A Response to Senior Needs
Please join Care for Elders on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 9:00am to 10:30am at the United Way Community Resource Center, 50 Waugh Drive, to discuss recommendations for higher standards of practice and improved policies based on lessons learned from Hurricane Ike. Adoption of Evidence-based Depression Interventions for Older Adults
The CDC Prevention Research Centers-Healthy Aging Research Network (PRC-HAN) is hosting a series of webinars on evidence-based depression care management programs for community-based older adults.  On Wednesday, October 29, 2008, Nancy Wilson will present Healthy IDEAS along with the Tarrant County Area Agency on Aging and Elder Independence of Maine, current Healthy IDEAS replicating agencies. ESPN Expo

On October 28, 2008, United Way of Greater Houston will host its annual ESPN EXPO, "An Informational Showcase of Elder Care Resources."  Elder Service providers will have the opportunity to highlight their programs by participating as exhibitors in this agency fair. This event will be held during the regular meeting time from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at the United Way Community Resource Center, 50 Waugh Drive. There is no cost. Selenia E. and Joseph C Valley, Sr. Conference

The 22nd Valley Conference is Friday, October 31, 2008, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm at The Hilton University of Houston Hotel and Conference Center. This conference was originally scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2008, but was cancelled due to the arrival of Hurricane Ike. The Conference Theme is Elder Care Innovations: Houston's Aging Agenda. Advocating for a Healthy Texas: Advocacy 101
One Voice: A Collaborative for Health and Human Services will be holding two advocacy training sessions in January prior to the start of the 81st Texas Legislature. Click here to download training brochure.  Feel free to distribute this brochure to any organization, individuals who might be interested in attending. Think about your own organizations including your Board of Directors, clients and other volunteers and how they might benefit from the training. Anyone associated with a One Voice organization attends under the One Voice fee structure.  If you would like to plan a special training for a specific group, please let us know and we will work with you.
