Happy Holidays and New Year!

WHAT'S NEW

2007 is ending with tremendous excitement!  On December 5, 2007, Jane Bavineau, Robert Phillips and Nancy Wilson presented the accomplishments and plans of the partnership to the Community Impact Committee of the United Way of Greater Houston, and requested additional funding to continue our work.  With recognition and appreciation for the commitment of each member of the partnership, the Committee awarded Care for Elders $400,000!

Care for Elders has also been awarded $25,000 from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to support further dissemination and replication of Healthy IDEAS.  The grant will allow CFE to provide information and technical assistance to case management programs throughout the U.S. that are interested in integrating this evidence based depression intervention into their standard practice and strengthening partnerships between aging and mental/behavioral health services.

The Challenge Met

With this new funding in hand, Care for Elders has successfully met the conditions of the Challenge Grant awarded to the partnership in 2005 by Houston Endowment.  We will now receive an additional $400,000 from the Endowment!  What a great way to start the New Year!

New Governing Council Member

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Diana Morales Taylor, CEO of the YWCA of Houston, has joined the Governing Council, filling the At-Large, Representing Minority Populations/Hispanic Elders position.  Diana brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to our leadership team; we are most fortunate to have her.
