Care for Elders (CFE) is Houston’s largest, most diverse and most experienced partnership focused on elder care issues. Uniting over 80 members from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Care for Elders is working to increase access to services, improve the quality of care, and enhance the quality of life for older adults and their families.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
· Everyone deserves to age with options, independence, well-being and dignity.
· Planning for the future should be a positive, empowering experience that helps older adults and their families get ready for life.
· We can enhance the quality of life for older adults in Harris County by understanding their needs, engaging leadership across sectors and leveraging resources for efficiency and impact.
HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
· Increasing Access: We coordinate resources and services to ensure access to care for consumers.
· Improving Quality: We improve the quality of care for older adults by developing new models, sharing best practices, advocating for new policies and supporting service providers.
· Preparing for the Future: We’re helping to shape Harris County’s future by collaborating with other community leaders in the development of a comprehensive aging agenda. We’re also helping individuals take charge of their future by providing information about options for maintaining independence.
WHY IT MATTERS
By 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 or older. This massive demographic shift places elder care issues at the center of Harris County’s future. Care for Elders is facing the Age Wave by taking a strategic partnership approach to creating ideas and delivering solutions that ensure long-term improvements in services and systems of care.
HISTORY
Established in 1999, Care for Elders won a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2002 to develop and implement a strategic plan for improving long-term care and supportive services in Harris County. CFE is one of the original eight grantees nationwide in RWJF’s Community Partnerships for Older Adults program. Community Partnerships for Older Adults is a national program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help communities develop leadership, innovative solutions, and options to meet the needs of older adults over the long term. Sheltering Arms Senior Services serves as the lead agency and fiscal agent for the partnership.
