Who is behind the Adopt-A-Senior Housing Community program?
The leadership for the Adopt-A-Senior Housing Community program is provided by Care for Elders and the Harris County Area Agency on Aging Area Planning Advisory Council (APAC) Support Service Committee. Care for Elders is a local partnership of more than 80 organizations committed to improving access to services and enhancing the quality of life for older adults and family caregivers in HarrisCounty. APAC is the Area Planning Advisory Council for Harris County Area Agency on Aging.
The Adopt-A-Senior Housing Community program has been integrated into the Harris County Annex O disaster response plan. This formal relationship allows volunteers and others working with us to have direct access to resources and County officials running the disaster operation.

How can a senior housing community sign up to participate in the program?
The Senior Housing Community Profile forms needs to be completed and mailed to Care for Elders, 3838 Aberdeen Way, Houston, Texas 77025. Click here to download the community profile.

What are the responsibilities of the resident volunteers?
To participate in the program each community will need to identify two residents or approve residents on our list that have volunteered to be a contact for the program. The volunteer residents will be trained and instructed to identity immediate needs and how to contact Care for Elders should management be absence immediately after a disaster

Who will be adopting the senior housing communities?
Care for Elders and APAC will be adopting your community. It will be the responsibility of Care for Elders and APAC to establish a relationship with the management team and the Resident volunteers that reside within the community. Following a disaster, a representative from Care for Elders or APAC will be in communication with the individuals identified on the Senior Community Profile form to evaluate the immediate recovery needs of the residents at the Senior Housing Community.

Is there a financial obligation?
There is not a financial obligation to participate in the Adopt-A-Senior Housing Community program.
