  2009 Elder Justice Act
Help Address the Invisible Crisis of Elder Abuse and Neglect

Care for Elders, in partnership with United Way of Greater Houston has joined the National Council on Aging and WITNESS, an international human rights organization for the 2009 Elder Justice Act Video Advocacy Campaign. The campaign is targeted at US Congress to heighten their awareness of elder abuse and encourage their support in the passage of the Elder Justice Act (S.795 / H.R. 2006) through the use of film.

The Elder Justice Act will provide a dedicated funding stream to support efforts across the country to end elder abuse and neglect.  For the first time, it will establish a network at the federal level to address this ongoing problem.  It creates a combined law enforcement and public health approach to study, detect, treat, prosecute and, most importantly, prevent elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.

This testimony was shared by Carolyn Crewey from Houston, Texas, as a part of the Elder Justice Now Campaign - a national campaign to break the silence on elder abuse and pass the Elder Justice Act.

In the video, Carolyn tells us how she survived elder abuse at the hands of a good friend.
